Benchling is seeking a Leader for Professional Services to build and manage a world-class implementation team supporting the company's rapidly expanding customer base across biotech startups and top-tier biopharma organizations. This is a player-coach role combining hands-on implementation leadership with team management of Implementation Managers based on the east coast. You will lead complex customer implementations directly while mentoring and developing your team, serving as an escalation point for technical challenges and critical customer situations. You'll shape how the professional services practice scales by refining methodologies, optimizing implementation processes, and ensuring customers achieve their scientific and business goals with Benchling's AI platform for biotech R&D. Key responsibilities include leading and coaching a team of Implementation Managers to foster excellence and continuous learning; defining PS strategy and scaling the team effectively; providing hands-on guidance during complex implementations; driving accountability for on-time, on-budget, high-quality project delivery; building strong cross-functional relationships with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering; understanding customer scientific workflows and translating insights into product and process improvements; representing Benchling's technical credibility with biotech and pharma customers; tracking team performance metrics and implementing improvements to increase velocity and satisfaction; and contributing to global PS initiatives. You must have an MS or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biological Engineering, or related field, with at least 4 years of lab or R&D experience (ideally in antibody discovery, strain engineering, chemistry, or process development). SaaS software implementation experience is required. You need 2+ years in a lead or people manager role with demonstrated success building high-performing teams. Strong communication skills, ability to empathize with scientists, self-starter mentality, and comfort navigating ambiguity in a startup environment are essential. Up to 25% travel based on customer and project needs.
