Scopely is seeking a Lead Systems Designer to join the Star Trek Fleet Command team in Dublin on a hybrid basis. Star Trek Fleet Command is a top-grossing 4X MMO launched in 2018 that continues to evolve and engage millions of players globally. In this role, you will own the design standards, direction, and player experiences across monthly content releases. You'll lead the feature pipeline, directing designers and UX specialists to craft compelling gameplay experiences. Your responsibilities include guiding teams through the creative process to meet both player and product needs, getting hands-on with building novel gameplay experiences focused on resource generation, spending, time gating, and power growth. You'll create systems that foster meaningful player agency and long-term investment. You will manage and mentor systems and economy designers to elevate team standards and craft exceptional experiences. You'll shape the design process to ensure player expectations are met and exceeded, using tools like Excel and Google Sheets to model economies and progression pacing. Collaboration is key—you'll work with experienced designers, product managers, analysts, and engineers to implement features that advance the genre. You'll evaluate performance using data, player feedback, and playtesting experience, and design for scale by planning long-term content extensibility and system health. Required qualifications include 2+ years of game design leadership experience and 8+ years designing systems or economies for live, free-to-play games, preferably in MMO, 4X, or strategy genres. You need proven expertise in F2P systems design and progression modeling, with a track record of delivering features that balance player fun, engagement, and monetization. You should be a confident people manager and mentor capable of growing talent, with experience across all aspects of game design: concept, progression, interface, monetization, and retention. Mastery of spreadsheets and ability to balance power curves, pacing, and resource flow are essential. You'll need to translate KPI targets and data into design direction, work cross-functionally in live production environments, and maintain a positive, collaborative approach. Bonus qualifications include deep understanding of the 4X genre with F2P experience, familiarity with SQL or scripting tools, passion for Star Trek or sci-fi, and previous work on alliance or co-op systems in large-scale games.
