Salary: USD 205,000 - 270,000 / annual

You will own the Video Platform product area, including live streaming, historical playback, cloud backup, clip export, transcoding, third-party video ingest (RTSP), and encryption of stored and exported video. Your work directly impacts every user interaction with video across Command (web), mobile apps, APIs, and wall displays.
Key responsibilities:
- Own live view and historical playback experiences (player, timeline, scrubbing, time-to-first-picture, stalls, audio sync) across web, mobile, and API surfaces
- Own cloud backup and clip export products, including retention policies, feature scope, and reliability standards
- Deliver reliable, quality streaming under challenging conditions (multiple concurrent viewers, LTE/thin uplinks, offline recording scenarios)
- Own third-party video ingestion via RTSP for playback in various formats and clients
- Own transcoding strategy (HEVC to H.264 conversion, cost optimization, failure rate reduction)
- Own customer-controlled encryption for stored and exported video where customers hold encryption keys
- Set engineering quality standards for playback, framing, and cloud backups; proactively identify and resolve customer issues using QoS metrics
- Collaborate with sales, support, go-to-market, and design teams to deliver revenue-driving video products
You will work cross-functionally with backend, frontend, and mobile engineers across all software services. You'll engage directly with customers to understand needs, resolve video issues, and ship delightful playback experiences.
The role requires full-time onsite presence at Verkada's San Mateo, CA headquarters (five days per week).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years as a product manager, currently at Lead or Group-level scope, with ownership of a video area (not single features)
- At least 3 years at a company whose primary product is video (streaming, playback, recording, VMS, real-time video, or video infrastructure)
- Multiple shipped products that external users watched live, played back, recorded, or exported
- Ability to work with engineers on HLS, WebRTC, RTSP protocols; H.264 and HEVC codecs; transcoding; cloud recording; and encryption
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with engineers and customers
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar quantitative field
- Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week
