New Relic is seeking a Lead Product Designer to join the AI Monitoring team in Hyderabad. This is a high-autonomy role owning end-to-end design for an emerging product category—"APM for AI"—that provides visibility into the AI stack from application layer to infrastructure. You will work within an engineering-heavy team of 16 engineers to tackle novel design challenges including visualizing multi-agent flows, making LLM trace data legible, and designing for progressive autonomy in a space without established design playbooks.
Key responsibilities include leading product design strategy and direction with high autonomy and fast iteration cycles. You will design information-dense interfaces that make telemetry data (traces, metrics, logs, topology maps) legible and actionable for expert users without oversimplification. You'll move at engineering speed by building functional demos and interactive prototypes using code-adjacent tools (Claude Code, Cursor, v0, Replit) to communicate vision more effectively than static mockups.
You will solve novel AI problems such as defining how users build trust in AI-generated insights, surfacing AI confidence levels, and designing human-in-the-loop patterns for agentic workflows. Collaboration is central: you'll co-create with product and engineering partners, proactively manage stakeholder expectations, and translate technical issues into accessible language. You'll apply systems thinking to design and execute product-wide pattern families ensuring consistency across the New Relic platform, and conduct frequent user research (both generative and evaluative interviews) to optimize product-market fit.
Required qualifications include proven lead-level experience operating as a Lead Product Designer with ability to distill complex problems and work independently. You need enterprise B2B expertise designing for large-scale infrastructure or developer tools managing thousands of services and millions of data points. Deep understanding of AI interaction patterns (explainability, evals, prompt engineering, agentic UX) is essential, along with fluency in modern prototyping tools and demonstrated ability to design information-dense interfaces like dashboards or flamegraphs. You must be comfortable operating in high ambiguity, shipping fast to learn, and have proven user research experience from hypothesis through analysis.
Nice-to-have skills include familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) server calls and distributed tracing, a portfolio demonstrating design rationale and system-wide thinking, knowledge of New Relic or similar APM/observability solutions, and examples of projects created using AI tools.
