Atom Computing is seeking a Laser Engineer to design, build, and maintain optical and laser systems critical to quantum computing hardware. In this hands-on role, you will align, tune, and troubleshoot diode- and fiber-based lasers, amplifiers, and nonlinear optical systems to ensure reliable quantum computing operations. You'll characterize and optimize laser systems to improve performance and stability, design new optical architectures for hardware builds and upgrades, and take a lead role in analyzing experimental data to guide engineering decisions. Day-to-day, you'll collaborate closely with experimental physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers to integrate laser systems into the broader quantum platform. You'll also manage project requirements, create engineering documentation, work from schematics and assembly drawings, and report progress and technical findings to the Laser Engineering Manager while contributing to the team's roadmap for scaling laser systems. This is a fast-paced startup environment where you'll wear multiple hats—from hands-on optical alignment to system design and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Physics, Optics, Chemistry, or Engineering, plus 2+ years of hands-on experience with optical, opto-mechanical, and laser systems. You should be comfortable with current state-of-the-art lasers and nonlinear optical materials, experienced in data analysis and interpretation, and skilled at working from technical drawings and documentation. Familiarity with Python, Git, Zemax, Onshape, or SolidWorks is a plus.
