OneTrust is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead technical direction across a major feature area or system domain. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you own outcomes, not just designs. You'll decide how ambiguous, cross-cutting problems get solved when no existing playbook applies, and your technical judgment carries weight across teams you don't formally manage.
In this role, you will lead architecture and design for systems with significant scope and blast radius, ensuring decisions hold up under real growth, compliance, and reliability constraints. You'll pay close attention to application performance and exercise judgment on where AI-assisted tooling accelerates delivery versus where deeper human design thinking is required.
You'll partner with Product, UX, and other engineering teams early, shaping problems before solutions are locked in. You'll build working relationships and technical credibility beyond your immediate team, setting engineering practices for code review norms, testing standards, and incident review rigor that get adopted by teams you don't sit on.
You'll identify and address systemic risk—technical debt, architectural drift, single points of failure—before it becomes an incident. Mentorship is a key part of the role: you'll mentor Senior and mid-level engineers on technical judgment, helping them understand how to scope ambiguity, when to escalate versus decide, and how to use (and not over-rely on) AI tooling in their own work.
OneTrust's mission is to enable innovation through the responsible use of data and AI. The company has developed the AI-Ready Governance Platform, which unifies regulatory intelligence, automation, and connected governance workflows so businesses can move at the speed of AI while ensuring good governance to prevent data misuse at scale. You'll be working on systems that matter to thousands of organizations worldwide.
