Salary: USD 85,000 - 117,000 / annual

The Laboratory Safety Manager oversees enterprise safety and emergency management policies, ensures regulatory compliance across all laboratory operations, and builds a strong safety culture among lab staff. Key Responsibilities: - Develop, review, and maintain laboratory safety policies and procedures to meet CAP/CLIA, NYS, OSHA, FDA, and DOT regulatory requirements - Monitor use and disposal of chemicals and biohazardous materials; coordinate with external vendors for hazardous waste disposal - Manage and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all labs, ensuring binders are complete and current - Establish and enforce PPE protocols for laboratory staff - Conduct and oversee new-hire laboratory safety training and annual fire safety training - Complete and document monthly safety audits to identify and address issues - Manage incident and event reporting for safety incidents; oversee accident investigation and corrective/preventative actions - Ensure safety equipment is maintained (eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, showers, first aid kits, etc.) - Assess ergonomic risks and provide workstation solutions - Serve as chair of the safety committee, facilitating discussions and gathering feedback - Prepare and deliver safety training materials to team members - Lead and manage assigned staff - Participate in laboratory audits and coordinate with Quality and Management teams Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, chemistry, biology, or closely related scientific field - At least 5 years of experience in an EHS-related role (desired) - Experience working in CLIA/CAP laboratory (desired) - Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations for work environment and personnel - Prior supervisory experience (preferred) - Excellent communication skills - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment - Self-driven, works well in interdisciplinary teams with minimal direction - Ability to multi-task and remain flexible to changing business needs - Experience using hand tools and basic understanding of electrical systems - Ability to work with cleaning supplies and chemicals with appropriate PPE - Physical capability to lift 50 lbs and stand, bend, reach, and lift repeatedly for extended periods
