The IT Infrastructure team builds and operates the systems that power how Thumbtack employees work, delivering reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure across identity, SaaS platforms, cloud systems, and endpoint management.
As an IT Systems Engineer II, you will be a primary systems administrator for key platforms including Okta, Google Workspace, Atlassian, Slack, Claude, and GitHub. You'll serve as an escalation point for the IT Support team, troubleshooting complex technical problems and documenting processes. You will triage and handle inbound IT Infrastructure requests from the business, including scoping requirements for SSO implementations, SaaS tool configuration, and leveraging automation to solve inefficient business processes.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency through systems design and automation, manage data and security governance processes, and maintain compliance with security standards including least-privilege access, patching, and two-factor authentication. You'll proactively monitor systems health, identify and resolve advanced issues, and participate in on-call rotation for critical components. You'll also drive technology projects with a focus on delivering business value.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of IT systems engineering experience in a distributed, enterprise IT environment
- Proven track record administering core IT platforms (Okta, Google Workspace, Atlassian, GitHub, Claude, Slack)
- History of managing infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or GitOps
- AI-first mentality with experience enabling tools like Claude and ChatGPT for colleagues
- Proficiency in building automations using Okta Workflows, Jira Automations, and Slack Workflows
- Excellent working knowledge of identity access management systems, services and protocols (SAML, SCIM, LDAP, OAuth2.0/OIDC)
- Proficiency in scripting languages, preferably Python or Shell
- Understanding of security and compliance methodologies, including experience with security incident response processes and tools
