Efficient Computer is developing ultra-low-power processors that enable AI/ML to run continuously on AA batteries for 5-10 years. The company is seeking an IT & Security Manager to own information technology end-to-end across a fast-growing, multi-site startup operating in the defense ecosystem. This is a strategic role, not a junior helpdesk position. You will be the sole IT team member initially, responsible for building and running systems, policies, and controls that enable secure operations and compliance with defense standards. You'll balance day-to-day employee experience with forward-looking security strategy. Employee Experience & IT Operations: Own IT support across all offices (hardware, software, accounts, access). Manage employee onboarding/offboarding, laptop fleets, and mobile device management (MDM) including configuration, patching, and endpoint security. Administer identity and access management via Rippling, Google Workspace, MFA, and SCIM provisioning. Own office IT infrastructure across four sites: networking, Wi-Fi with RADIUS authentication, conference rooms, AV, printers, and physical access systems. Manage IT vendors, licensing, and renewals. AI Tooling & Governance: Shape and administer the company's AI usage policies, including tool approval and sensitive data protection. Own AI tool spend and seat management, monitoring usage and controlling costs. Ensure employees are productive with AI tools while steering usage toward appropriate solutions. Security & Compliance: Serve as first line of defense for security events, phishing, and incidents. Own compliance with CMMC and defense-related IT standards (NIST SP 800-171), including gap assessments, remediation, evidence collection, and audit readiness. Establish policies and controls for sensitive and controlled information. Build the security roadmap as the company scales. Partner with leadership, legal, and engineering on customer and government security requirements. Strategy & Scale: Advise leadership on IT strategy, budget, and build-vs-buy decisions. Design scalable systems and processes with self-service and automation. Lay groundwork for a future IT team. Required: 6+ years progressive IT experience, including startup founding IT experience. Hands-on depth with MDM platforms (Jamf, Kandji, Intune) across macOS and Windows. Strong SSO and identity provider administration experience. Automated user lifecycle management and SCIM provisioning. RADIUS server deployment and management. Working knowledge of CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, or comparable defense/government IT compliance frameworks. Security operations grounding: endpoint protection, email security, incident response, security awareness. Office networking experience across multiple sites.
