Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for global connectivity, protection, and deep-space exploration. The IT Network Engineer II role is based onsite at the Wallops Island, VA East Coast Launch Facility and focuses on delivering day-to-day IT support and advanced technical expertise to Rocket Lab engineers while contributing to infrastructure implementations across the organization.
Key responsibilities include resolving complex technical issues across network infrastructure, systems, and integrations requiring escalated troubleshooting and analysis. You will deliver subject matter expertise and technical guidance to ensure optimal performance and availability of critical IT systems, and drive upgrade and maintenance initiatives with a focus on continuous improvement, reliability, and security.
You will implement and champion IT infrastructure standards for deployment and management across Space Systems and Launch environments, ensuring compliance with Rocket Lab policies and cybersecurity standards, simplified environment management practices, automated build and maintenance processes, high availability and disaster recovery, and comprehensive documentation.
Additional responsibilities include participating in an on-call rotation supporting 24/7/365 Launch Mission Operations and collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and optimize infrastructure solutions.
Required qualifications: 2+ years of experience in a network-focused technology role with a bachelor's degree or equivalent (6+ years work experience); hands-on experience deploying networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls); understanding of networking concepts including security, architecture design, and troubleshooting tools; in-depth knowledge of Fortinet Firewalls, Juniper/Cisco Switches, enterprise network architecture, multicasting/VLAN overlays, network monitoring tools, or Linux/Windows system administration; US citizenship required due to program requirements.
Desirable qualifications include specialist certifications (Linux, CCNA, AWS, Microsoft, Azure), experience with mass device deployment or Infrastructure as Code, Puppet/Ansible automation frameworks, Python/Shell/Bash scripting, Prometheus/Grafana/InfluxDB monitoring tools, and advanced problem-solving skills.
