Teamshares is a mission-driven startup acquiring small businesses from retiring owners and converting them into employee-owned enterprises through software, education, and community products. The company addresses a gap in the market: making employee ownership accessible to small businesses, which represent 98% of US firms.
You will serve as an emerging portfolio leader overseeing 4–6 small to mid-sized businesses in the specialty food and beverage retail sector. Reporting to a senior Industry Lead who retains ultimate P&L ownership, you will drive financial performance, strategic alignment, and day-to-day portfolio support. You will not manage daily operations but will work through company leaders to achieve results.
Key responsibilities include:
• Financial Analysis: Support P&L management across the portfolio. Help business leaders build annual plans and track revenue, EBITDA, and cash flow targets.
• Leadership Support: Develop into a coach and accountability partner for portfolio company leaders over time.
• Performance Management: Track and drive KPIs across businesses. Identify underperformance and collaboratively implement turnaround strategies.
• Change Management: Help portfolio companies navigate leadership transitions, process improvements, and new system implementations.
• Strategic Planning: Partner with company leaders on growth plans, capital investment strategies, and operational improvements.
• Reporting & Communication: Serve as the liaison between network companies and Teamshares. Prepare regular performance updates, risk assessments, and opportunity analyses.
• Synergy & Optimization: Identify and drive cross-portfolio synergies including shared services, procurement, and best practices.
• Governance & Compliance: Ensure all businesses operate within legal, ethical, and financial standards.
You should have 2–3 years in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, FP&A, or business operations in similarly analytical and high-accountability environments. Strong financial acumen is essential: budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and performance analysis. You must demonstrate analytical rigor, build trust and influence without direct authority, and move fluidly between high-level strategy and detailed operational work. An entrepreneurial mindset is critical—comfort with imperfect information, evolving priorities, and limited resources. Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or related field required; MBA preferred. Willingness to travel periodically to portfolio company locations.
