Bitwarden is seeking an Associate Manager of Product Design to lead a small team of product designers while maintaining hands-on involvement in design work. This is a hybrid IC-manager role ideal for an experienced designer ready to step into formal people management for the first time.
You will manage and mentor a team of product designers, running 1:1s, supporting career development, and fostering a culture of craft and collaboration. You'll partner closely with Product Managers and Engineering leads to set design priorities, align roadmaps, and advocate for user experience across the Bitwarden platform. While managing the team, you'll continue to contribute directly to select initiatives—creating user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes.
Key responsibilities include facilitating design critiques and review sessions to ensure consistent, high-quality, accessible work; planning and executing user research and testing practices that inform design decisions; driving cross-functional alignment by communicating design rationale to diverse stakeholders; identifying process improvements to increase team effectiveness and velocity; and upholding Bitwarden's design system across desktop, mobile (iOS & Android), web, and browser extensions.
You bring 3–5 years of product design experience with informal leadership or mentoring experience. Your portfolio demonstrates strong UI craft, systems thinking, and ability to solve complex UX problems across platforms. You're proficient in Figma and familiar with design and developer tools. You have experience planning user research, facilitating design critiques, and communicating design decisions through sketches, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes. You're collaborative, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by helping others succeed. You have strong verbal and written communication skills and genuine enthusiasm for open-source software and internet security.
