Basis builds production-grade AI agents that perform end-to-end work for major accounting firms. The company recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation with backing from top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Accel, and Google Ventures.
You'll serve as a People Business Partner, advising leaders on organization design, workforce planning, performance management, manager development, employee relations, and organizational health. This is a high-ownership, strategic role that combines people fundamentals with systems thinking and business judgment.
Key responsibilities:
**Partner With Team Leaders**
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the organization, influencing through credibility and partnership
- Coach managers on feedback, performance, team health, and leadership effectiveness
- Build deep fluency in your teams' business goals and metrics to ground your guidance in real context
**Own The Employee Lifecycle**
- Partner cross-functionally to improve employee experience across onboarding, engagement, retention, and development
- Lead career and growth planning conversations and manage performance cycles end-to-end, including communications, timelines, feedback quality, and calibration
- Navigate employee relations and sensitive situations with judgment, empathy, and pragmatism
**Deepen the Function and Enable The Team**
- Lead coaching conversations and workshops that sharpen how managers develop their teams
- Define what every Basis manager is accountable for and build programming to get them there
- Extend people infrastructure and operating rhythms so they scale without becoming more manual
- Use data and trends to spot organizational risk early and recommend action
You'll report to the People Ops Lead and operate as both a strategic thought partner and hands-on builder, embedded closely with your teams.
**Requirements:**
- 3–5+ years in HR business partnering or people operations, with a track record of owning performance management and employee relations independently at a high-growth company
- Strong expertise in performance management, calibration, manager coaching, and employee relations, with judgment to know what a given situation calls for
- Systems mindset: ability to take a process that works and make it scale through clearer workflows, better data, and tighter rhythms
- Bias for action: set direction, ship something, and iterate on what you learn without waiting for perfect information
- Ability to influence senior leaders through credibility and partnership, not process
- Range across the employee lifecycle and the discretion the work requires
**Nice-to-haves:**
- Built and taught manager programming in a company adding managers quickly, with knowledge of which curriculum actually changes behavior
- Run calibration that holds up across teams doing very different work
- Helped build job architecture or career ladders and lived with the first promotion cycle using them
- Real experience using AI for people work (feedback synthesis, cycle preparation, policy drafting, analytics) with a view on where it helps and where it erodes trust
- Fluency partnering with technical teams and fast-scaling go-to-market organizations
- Comfort partnering with outside immigration counsel on sponsored populations, petitions, extensions, and filing timelines
