You will serve as Director, HR Business Partner—the strategic right-hand to the VP of People Experience & Operations and the primary HR presence across the entire organization. This is a foundational role in a fast-scaling company where you'll be a true thought partner, not an executor of a pre-built playbook.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the primary HR partner across all ShopMy teams, acting as the go-to resource for employees and managers on career development, feedback, sensitive situations, and complex HR matters
- Be a strategic thought partner to the VP of People Experience & Operations, helping shape people strategy, pressure-test ideas, and co-own building a best-in-class people function
- Build and run manager effectiveness programs, coaching frameworks, and toolkits that develop ShopMy's leaders
- Anchor performance management, managing the day-to-day cadence of annual review cycles and calibrations
- Partner with leaders on talent density and bar-raising, helping them continuously assess team performance and act early on gaps through coaching, role changes, or performance management
- Navigate employee relations with care and rigor, including sensitive conversations, investigations, PIPs, and exits
- Identify and design learning & development programs to close organizational capability gaps
- Inform compensation strategy and org design decisions by partnering with leadership and Finance on leveling, pay decisions, and headcount planning
You are energized by being a trusted advisor employees turn to, driving strategic partnership rather than just execution, building in fast-moving environments with real stakes, developing managers, connecting people decisions to business outcomes, and ShopMy's mission at the intersection of creators, brands, and culture.
The role has room to grow, including potential to manage a team over time as the first of likely a larger HRBP organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8–12 years of progressive HR experience, with meaningful time as an HRBP or strategic HR partner at a high-growth tech or startup company
- Proven track record as a trusted advisor to leaders; experience sitting in the room, understanding the business, and shaping people strategy
- Track record of driving talent density as an ongoing practice, not just an annual event; ability to help leaders spot underperformance or skill gaps early and act proactively
- Strong employee relations background; experience managing complex investigations and sensitive situations with discretion, fairness, and rigor
- Exceptional written and verbal communication; equally clear, credible, and calibrated whether speaking to executives or individual contributors
- Strong follow-through and organizational rigor; ability to manage many concurrent priorities without losing the thread; proactive rather than reactive
- Hands-on experience with performance management cycles and talent density management, including calibrations, feedback frameworks, and coaching managers through difficult conversations
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and trust-building instincts that make both executives and individual contributors feel heard
- Data-driven and clear-headed; ability to interpret people data, spot what matters, and present it in a way that drives decisions
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building; doesn't wait for a perfect playbook
- Based in NYC
BONUS:
- Experience at a creator economy, marketplace, or consumer tech company
- Prior people management experience
- Background in compensation strategy or total rewards (band design, pay equity analysis)
- SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification
