OpenAI is seeking a strategic and deeply technical leader to serve as Head of Government Technical Success. This role oversees technical functions across the government customer lifecycle, spanning pre-sales engagement, prototype-to-production delivery, and post-sales adoption and value realization. You will define and operate a unified technical success strategy across federal civilian, defense and national security, state and local, and international public sector customers. Your mission is to help customers identify high-value applications of OpenAI's technology, navigate technical and organizational requirements of government environments, move applications into production, and scale adoption to deliver measurable mission impact. This role combines organizational leadership, technical judgment, executive customer engagement, operating rigor, and product influence. You will partner closely with Government Sales, Product, Engineering, Research, Security, Legal, Global Affairs and Policy, and other teams to ensure a seamless customer experience. Key responsibilities include: setting strategy and operating model for Government Technical Success; building and leading a technical success organization; creating a seamless technical journey for government customers from discovery through value realization; partnering with Government Sales on technical strategy and resource allocation; serving as technical executive sponsor for strategic government relationships; guiding teams through government deployment requirements (security, privacy, compliance, procurement, accreditation); ensuring successful evaluation, configuration, integration, and deployment of OpenAI products; establishing clear measures of technical success; scaling impact through playbooks, reference architectures, and partner enablement; developing partnerships with systems integrators and cloud partners; representing the technical voice of government customers to internal teams; anticipating and addressing customer challenges; and championing a customer-first, mission-first culture. Required qualifications: 10+ years of experience with public sector customers and a strong track record building and leading multidisciplinary technical customer-facing organizations across the full lifecycle; experience leading high-performing technical teams through rapid growth and organizational change; deep technical acumen in AI and platform technologies with credibility in model behavior, APIs, agentic systems, enterprise architecture, security, cloud integration, and operational readiness; significant experience serving government or similarly complex regulated customers; meaningful experience with international government customers or leading international teams; experience leading complex AI/ML or enterprise platform implementations from discovery through production and scaled adoption; and ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear strategies.
