Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming livestock grazing through autonomous technology. The company enables farmers and graziers to run more productive and sustainable operations using innovative solutions that eliminate traditional constraints like quad bikes, dogs, and fences. As Head of Strategic Sourcing, you will own the company's supplier strategy and relationships, recognizing that sourcing decisions are fundamentally strategic decisions that shape cost structure, product quality, supply chain resilience, and scalability. This is a high-impact, externally-facing role requiring significant time on the ground with suppliers and contract manufacturers. Key responsibilities include: **New Supplier Identification & Selection**: Lead the end-to-end process of identifying, evaluating, and onboarding suppliers and contract manufacturers across all component categories. Develop and maintain visibility of the global supplier landscape, identifying opportunities for better capability, lower cost, or reduced supply risk. Collaborate with hardware engineering and quality teams to assess technical capability and quality readiness before commitments. **Supplier Development**: Develop strategic suppliers over time, building their capability and alignment with Halter's requirements. Identify underperforming suppliers and develop structured improvement plans. Address supply base resilience by identifying and mitigating concentration risk and single-source dependencies. Build Halter's profile as a valued customer worth investing in. **Commercial Negotiations**: Lead negotiations across the supplier base, securing favorable pricing, payment terms, lead times, MOQs, and contractual protections. Develop negotiation strategies for major agreements using total cost of ownership perspective. Identify and deliver cost reduction opportunities through design-to-cost initiatives and volume consolidation. Ensure agreements include appropriate terms around quality, IP, exclusivity, capacity commitments, and risk allocation. **Supplier Relationship Management**: Own strategic supplier relationships at a senior level, serving as Halter's primary contact for key suppliers and contract manufacturers on commercial and strategic matters. Build governance cadences and maintain relationships that unlock preferential terms and create genuine partnership. You'll work closely with supply chain leadership, quality, operations, and hardware engineering teams. Success is measured on the quality of the supplier base built, commercial outcomes secured, and strength of relationships developed across the supply chain.
