As Head of Risk Operations, you will lead a global team responsible for Acquiring, Issuing, and Credit Risk domains. This is a strategic leadership role focused on defining procedures and delivering operational excellence across new client onboarding, periodic review, and in-life behavior monitoring. You will ensure Airwallex maintains high standards for integrity, judgment, and documentation across all risk operations.
Key responsibilities include: owning the vision, strategy, and execution for Risk Operations; building and leading a globally distributed team; developing location and resourcing strategies to achieve 24/7 coverage while optimizing quality and cost efficiency; creating scalable operating rhythms with clear OKRs; implementing data-driven performance management; balancing risk, customer experience, and commercial impact; driving continuous improvement in procedures, playbooks, and control frameworks in alignment with financial crime and fraud policies; and leading AI transformation initiatives within the team.
You will need proven senior leadership experience in large-scale, multi-jurisdiction operations within regulated financial services or fintech. A track record of scaling Risk Operations across multiple geographies (covering at least 2 of Payments, Issuing, Credit) is essential. Strong background in Fraud Operations and ATO risk control, combined with commercial and analytical judgment, is required. You should have demonstrated ability to operate at the Operations-Product-Risk intersection, driving cross-functional outcomes without direct reporting authority. Experience with automation and AI-led transformation in operations, plus proficiency with big data analytics tools (SQL, DBX, BI tooling), is expected.
Preferred qualifications include cross-border payments experience, multi-entity and multi-license environment expertise, comfort with technical API-first products, exposure to IPO readiness and public-company controls, and background from top-tier consulting or operator-investor roles.
