Vapi is a Series B AI company (backed by Peak XV, Bessemer, Kleiner Perkins, Y Combinator; $72M raised) building voice AI agents that resolve customer issues rather than transfer calls. You will join as Head of People, reporting directly to the CEO, to build and lead the People function from the ground up as the company scales rapidly. This is a greenfield opportunity—most programs don't yet exist, so you'll architect the entire post-hire employee experience.
In your first 30 days, you'll audit current systems, meet leadership and employees across the company, and establish your operating rhythm with the CEO and Head of Talent Acquisition (a separate function you'll partner with). By day 60, you'll deliver a diagnosis of the People function and a prioritized 12-month roadmap, ship quick wins on urgent gaps, and establish baseline people metrics for the exec team. By day 90, you'll launch your first major program (performance cycle or comp bands), initiate manager development, and operate as a trusted strategic partner to leadership.
You own everything post-hire: performance management, compensation strategy, culture, learning & development, and HR operations. You'll build performance frameworks, compensation bands, and culture programs from scratch. You'll make hard calls on employee relations, managing performance issues, and organizational restructures with directness and kindness. You'll be data-driven, building and defending people metrics with the executive team.
