Goodfire is a research company advancing AI interpretability—understanding how AI systems work at a fundamental level to build safer, more powerful AI. Founded by top researchers from OpenAI and DeepMind, the company is backed by over $200M from leading VCs including B Capital, Menlo Ventures, and Lightspeed.
As Head of People, you will lead all talent strategy and execution for this high-growth AI research organization. You'll own hiring across all functions, compensation and equity philosophy, and the complete employee lifecycle from offer through development and offboarding. You'll shape the company's high-performance, mission-driven culture as it scales, build scalable People systems and infrastructure, and partner closely with founders on organizational design, workforce planning, and leadership development. You'll also lead and develop a high-performing People team.
Key responsibilities include owning Goodfire's hiring strategy without compromising quality under pressure, designing compensation and leveling frameworks to attract world-class talent, managing employee relations and sensitive people situations with sound judgment, and building processes that enable rapid growth while preserving the company's intensity and high standards.
You'll need 8+ years in People/Talent roles, including experience building or scaling a People function at a high-growth startup. You must have a proven track record hiring for technical and research roles under intense pressure, comfort operating with ambiguity and building processes from scratch, and strong judgment on sensitive, high-stakes people situations. This role reports directly to the CEO and requires 5 days/week onsite in San Francisco.
