FamilyWell Health is an AI-enabled mental health startup dedicated to addressing the women's mental health crisis by embedding high-quality, equitable, and affordable mental health care into OB/Gyn practices. The company provides comprehensive virtual mental health services using the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM), delivering coaching, therapy, and psychiatric services directly into clinical workflows. With 95% of patients experiencing clinical improvement within four months, FamilyWell has recently closed an $8M Series A and is expanding nationwide. As Head of People, you will be FamilyWell's first full-time People leader, responsible for building and scaling the people function from the ground up. While foundational pieces exist (HRIS, employee handbook), most infrastructure still needs to be built or refined to support rapid growth across a multi-state clinical and operational workforce. Key responsibilities include: **People Infrastructure & Systems:** Evaluate and optimize the existing HRIS against scaling needs; refine and expand the employee handbook and policy library as the company enters new states; design and document HR processes for a mixed W-2/1099, multi-state, clinical and non-clinical workforce. **Compensation, Benefits & Compliance:** Own compensation strategy and banding in partnership with Finance; administer employee benefits and manage vendor relationships; manage multi-state employment compliance including worker classification and ABC-test exposure; partner with Finance and outside counsel on ERISA, payroll controls, and regulatory risk. **Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning:** Build scalable recruiting infrastructure and processes for clinical and corporate hiring; partner with hiring managers on org design, headcount planning, and leveling; own the candidate experience from requisition through offer. **Performance, Culture & Employee Relations:** Design and implement a performance management framework; own employee relations, investigations, and performance improvement processes; build culture and engagement practices for a distributed, mission-driven team; serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team on organizational design and people strategy. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is fully remote with a strong preference for candidates based in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, or Connecticut. Occasional in-person attendance (1–2 times per month) may be required. **Requirements** *Required:* - 8+ years of progressive HR/People leadership experience, including at least 2+ years building a People function largely from scratch at an early-stage or high-growth startup - Working knowledge of multi-state employment law and worker classification sufficient to identify issues and know when to loop in outside counsel, including exposure to strict/ABC-test states - Experience designing compensation bands and partnering with Finance on compensation strategy and budget - Experience managing a mixed workforce of W-2 employees and 1099 contractors - Track record of evaluating, scaling, or implementing HRIS/people systems and foundational HR infrastructure (handbook, policies, onboarding) at a growing organization *Strongly Preferred:* - Experience in healthcare services, behavioral health, or a multi-site/multi-state clinical workforce environment - Familiarity with the interplay between HR and clinical credentialing/licensure functions - Experience operating within a PE- or VC-backed company - SHRM-CP/SCP or equivalent HR certification - Experience building recruiting infrastructure and leading talent acquisition in a fast-scaling organization
