Astra is building mission-critical infrastructure for moving money at scale, processing billions in annual transaction volume with 99.9%+ uptime. The company powers real-time transfers, bank debits, card disbursements, and complex financial compliance systems through APIs and automation tools.
As Head of Finance, you will report directly to the CEO and own the company's financial strategy, planning, reporting, and operational rigor while serving as a key thought partner to the leadership team. This is Astra's first finance leader role, offering end-to-end ownership during a period of rapid growth.
Key responsibilities include: owning financial strategy and capital planning; monitoring cash flow, runway, and capital needs; building forecasting frameworks for informed investment decisions; serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO on pricing strategy, resource allocation, and growth initiatives; owning board materials, investor updates, and fundraising analyses; building and maintaining financial models that power decision-making across the business; analyzing payments revenue streams including interchange, network fees, and processor costs; directing reconciliation and settlement accounting across payment rails (ACH, RTP, FedNow, wires, card networks); managing treasury and liquidity; leading annual budgeting and long-range planning; overseeing monthly close, accounts payable/receivable, and bookkeeping; and building and developing the finance team.
You should have 7+ years in finance, FP&A, investment banking, or strategic finance with exposure to accounting fundamentals. Early-stage or venture-backed startup experience is essential, ideally as a founding or first finance hire. Direct hands-on experience running fundraising processes—data rooms, diligence, investor materials, board reporting—is required. You need exceptional financial modeling and forecasting skills, strong understanding of fintech/payments business models and operating drivers, and the ability to partner directly with executives. The ideal candidate has helped scale a venture-backed fintech or payments company through multiple growth stages and brings strong judgment, executive presence, and the ability to influence decisions in environments without existing playbooks.
