Orbital is an AI-native platform transforming commercial real estate transactions through intelligent due diligence automation. The company has just raised $60M in Series B funding and is expanding across UK and US markets, trusted by leading firms like Goodwin and BCLP.
As Head of Design, you will report directly to the CTO and lead a small design team of three, growing it as the company scales. This is a strategic leadership role at a critical inflection point: the product is live and proven with demanding legal professionals, and the challenge is scaling it significantly while improving clarity, speed, and trustworthiness.
Your responsibilities include:
- Setting the design agenda from product strategy and business context, not from a predefined backlog. You'll assess product, user, and business realities to prioritize information architecture, interaction design, design systems, user research, and AI interface patterns.
- Sitting at the product leadership table as a strategic partner, influencing business decisions and pressure-testing product choices against user reality. You'll identify where design is constraining growth and spot friction points in information architecture, interaction patterns, and visual clarity.
- Defining what AI-native design means at Orbital. The core challenges are epistemic: how to build trust in AI outputs for accountable professionals, present complex analysis clearly, and make agentic behavior feel controllable. You'll set standards for these interaction patterns and hold the team accountable.
- Building and scaling the design function through high-growth phases. You'll invest in designer growth, develop clear ownership, and create a high-leverage team combining strong craft, deep user understanding, and AI-design instincts.
Required experience: senior-level product design leadership at scaling B2B tech companies; proven ability to influence business decisions from the product table; experience scaling design functions through growth phases; hands-on experience designing AI-native products (not AI-bolted-on tools) with deep knowledge of explainability, trust, agentic UX, and confidence signals; design experience with expert professional users who know their domain deeply; strong commercial instincts connecting design to adoption, retention, and revenue; ability to translate product context into strategy and challenge priorities with evidence; leadership through a design team without owning every deliverable.
Nice-to-haves include direct Series B-to-C growth experience and building design functions from early stages.
