Mesh is a crypto payments infrastructure company backed by PayPal Ventures, Paradigm, and Galaxy Ventures. The mission is to enable consumers to pay and be paid with any asset, making tokenized assets usable for everyday commerce. As Head of Design, you will own the end-to-end user experience across Mesh's consumer app and all merchant-facing surfaces. This is a hybrid role: roughly half hands-on design work, half team leadership and strategic influence. Key responsibilities include: **Design Ownership**: Design the complete user journey from first impression through failure states and support handoffs. Own the hardest design problems—deciding mental models for different merchant types, standardizing vs. customizing flows, and shipping deposits, swaps, bridging, fiat on-ramps, and failure recovery experiences. You are the tiebreaker on experience questions. **Team Leadership**: Manage and coach the design team, set the bar for design talent at Mesh, and hire as the company scales. **Strategic Influence**: Represent design at the executive table, bringing evidence-backed positions to roadmap and customer decisions alongside the CEO, CTO, and SVP Product. **AI-Era Design**: Decide how design operates at Mesh in the age of AI—tools, workflows, prototyping vs. specs ratios—and evolve the function ahead of the curve. You bring 8+ years in product design with 3+ years leading designers while staying hands-on. You have shipped consumer products at scale and have a track record designing for complex, high-stakes systems (money movement, health, infrastructure) where failure matters. You originate conceptual frames rather than executing them, have changed roadmap direction with design arguments, and use AI aggressively in your practice. Payments or fintech experience is a plus but not required.
