The company is building the next generation of safe and powerful AI by understanding how AI systems actually work, rather than treating them as black boxes.
As Head of Compute, you will own the strategy and execution around one of Goodfire's most critical resources: compute infrastructure for model training, research, and customer workloads. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the CEO.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning Goodfire's compute strategy across all workloads (training, research, customer-facing)
- Building and executing the compute sourcing strategy, deciding when to rent, partner, or own GPUs while optimizing for cost, reliability, and strategic flexibility
- Securing compute capacity and favorable pricing in a GPU-scarce market
- Managing the full economics of compute: vendor negotiations, contract strategy, capacity planning, utilization optimization, and long-term infrastructure impact
- Partnering closely with research and product teams to translate technical roadmaps into concrete compute requirements and ensure infrastructure never becomes a bottleneck
- Building forecasting models to anticipate compute demand and enable confident long-term planning
- Collaborating with finance and leadership on capital allocation, investment decisions, and infrastructure strategy
