veritree is an award-winning climate tech start-up based in Vancouver, launched in 2021. The company measures and verifies the impact of global restoration efforts, with a mission to plant 1 billion verified trees by 2030. veritree is seeking a Head of Carbon to lead the strategic development, build-out, and operations of its carbon business—one of the company's fastest-growing revenue lines. In this high-ownership role, you will own the strategic function of veritree's carbon business, including project sourcing oversight, technology enablement, strategic partnerships, and sales oversight. You will work alongside a Carbon Specialist who handles day-to-day project relationships and credit retirement. This role reports into Corporate Development and works cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Operations to build carbon into a durable, high-margin line of business. Key responsibilities include: **Carbon Strategy & Growth:** Own the strategic roadmap for the carbon business, setting priorities across sourcing, sales, storytelling, and technology. Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities within carbon resale and monitoring. Build out veritree's "charismatic carbon" narrative in partnership with sales and marketing. Represent carbon in company-wide planning and ensure targets align with Corporate Development goals. **Portfolio Development & Delivery:** Set strategy for portfolio construction with the Carbon Specialist. Provide oversight on due diligence frameworks and scoring systems to ensure a credible, audit-ready portfolio. Identify and execute ways to accelerate carbon credit resale, including pricing optimization, buyer/reseller partnerships, and process improvements. **Sales & Inventory:** Build and own a live carbon credit inventory system showing availability, reservations, retirements, and pricing. Own the carbon sales pipeline and forecast in HubSpot. Define processes for Sales and BD reps to quote, reserve, and close carbon deals. Track margin and velocity by project and reseller partner. **Technology Enablement:** Partner with the Product team to co-own and manage the roadmap for carbon's technology needs and integration with the tech stack. Translate carbon workflows into scalable, repeatable processes. Ensure systems and data support growth into new buyer segments and resale channels. **Team Leadership:** Build partnerships extending veritree's carbon capabilities (e.g., with carbon project developers or nature-based carbon credit offtakers). Act as the reseller lead for larger, complex carbon transactions. Provide strategic oversight to the broader carbon team and define how the team's structure evolves as it scales. **Key Outcomes (1-6 months):** Ramp on the carbon business and build key relationships; assess and improve the carbon credit resale process; map gaps in carbon storytelling; draft a carbon growth strategy; improve resale motion on existing credits; launch a carbon inventory tracker; deliver sales enablement content; establish the carbon operating model end-to-end; achieve >$500k in 2026 carbon revenue with $750k of 2027 runrate. **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in Business, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) - 10+ years of experience in carbon markets, environmental commodities, or related sustainability/climate business function - Strong understanding of voluntary carbon market mechanics (project types, verification standards and bodies, credit issuance/retirement processes) - Proven track record of structuring partnerships, resale/brokerage deals, or commercial transactions in a new or scaling business line - Skilled in building frameworks, scoring systems, and processes that bring discipline to an early-stage function - Entrepreneurial mindset with bias toward action and ownership - Strategic thinker who can operate autonomously in ambiguity and bring structure to a fast-evolving market - Strong relationship-builder, comfortable engaging project developers, buyers, and internal stakeholders - Pragmatic and business-minded sustainability professional **Nice to Haves:** - Certifications like GHG Protocol, Verra VCS, or similar carbon market credentials - Experience with carbon project development or MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) - Familiarity with climate tech platforms or environmental data systems
