Rocket Lab is seeking a Harness Design Engineer I/II to join the Space Systems team at their Long Beach headquarters. This role focuses on the design and development of electrical harnesses for spacecraft, as well as supporting avionics engineering activities. In the harness design capacity, you will perform layout and design tasks including connector and back shell selection, wire selection, and shielding specifications for spacecraft. You'll generate pinout tables for harness connectors based on spacecraft interconnect diagrams, create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) in the product lifecycle management tool, and assist in documenting electrical system schematics and harness designs. On the avionics side, you will develop test plans and procedures for avionics subsystems and components, perform analysis and evaluations to optimize spacecraft circuits for performance, reliability, and manufacturability, and participate in internal design reviews and customer-facing meetings. You'll work in multi-disciplinary teams to support the design of electronic assemblies for satellite and spacecraft programs. Rocket Lab builds rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for missions ranging from interplanetary exploration and in-space manufacturing to national security and defense initiatives. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions and has built spacecraft and components for missions to the Moon and Mars, partnering with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force. For the Engineer I level, you need a bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or related engineering discipline, plus experience with electrical engineering or avionics. For Engineer II, add 2+ years of relevant experience. Desirable qualifications include advanced degrees, aerospace/defense industry experience, satellite development and operations background, understanding of space environment and orbital mechanics, proficiency with tools like LT Spice, Altium, and Siemens software, experience with requirement management tools, testing of electrical subsystems (thermal vacuum, vibration, HITL), and strong electronics and instrumentation knowledge.
