OpenAI's Growth team is seeking a Lifecycle Lead to build and scale the company-wide owned-channel capability for reaching businesses with relevant, timely, and trustworthy experiences. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role focused on small and medium business (SMB) lifecycle strategy.
You will sit at the intersection of platform, product, and campaign strategy, partnering with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and Analytics to build the orchestration and deployment infrastructure. You'll work with Product Marketing Managers and client teams to design customer journeys that help businesses reach value and build durable habits across onboarding, activation, retention, and monetization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting company-wide vision, roadmap, and operating model for lifecycle and owned-channel engagement in B2B
- Partnering with Engineering and Data Science to shape tooling and infrastructure for identity, audiences, segmentation, orchestration, experimentation, and observability
- Defining scalable deployment workflows with self-service and centrally supported paths, governance, and incident response
- Designing, launching, and optimizing lifecycle journeys across email, push, and in-product messaging
- Building measurement systems that connect reach, delivery, engagement, and incremental value through sound experiments
- Optimizing the lifecycle portfolio by improving inventory, relevance, personalization, and frequency
- Establishing high standards for deliverability, user preferences, and operational quality
- Leading cross-functional influence across Engineering, Product, Data Science, Analytics, PMM, Creative, Legal, and Privacy teams
The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days in office per week). Relocation assistance is available.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in lifecycle, CRM, retention, growth, product marketing, or marketing technology, ideally in global B2B businesses serving self-serve SMBs, enterprises, and developers
- Track record of building and scaling lifecycle tooling or platforms with Engineering for multiple teams, products, audiences, or markets
- Strong technical and product fluency across event and identity models, data pipelines, APIs, segmentation, triggering, decisioning, experimentation, and deployment systems (coding not required)
- Deep campaign and journey design experience with evergreen programs that move users from message to product value
- Strong experimentation and measurement judgment, including incrementality, holdouts, cohort quality, retention, and lifetime value
- Experience creating operating models, governance, templates, and quality standards that increase organizational velocity
- Executive-level cross-functional influence and clear communication skills
- Hands-on, systems-oriented leadership style with ability to set multi-year direction, write briefs, inspect journeys, diagnose failures, and make pragmatic tradeoffs
