Halter is a fast-growing agtech company revolutionizing sustainable grazing practices with innovative technology that enables farmers and graziers to optimize herd management without traditional constraints. The company is backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC, and operates across New Zealand, the US, Australia, and Canada with plans for further expansion.
As Group Accountant, you will play a central role in scaling Halter's finance function to support rapid international growth. Your primary responsibilities include managing relationships with external auditors and owning the audit process end-to-end, researching and documenting technical accounting positions with supporting management papers, and staying on top of accounting and tax compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions and entities.
You will work closely with the financial control team on group-level month-end activities, including intercompany recharges and reconciliations. A key part of the role involves researching accounting and tax requirements in new markets as Halter expands geographically. You'll also have exposure to finance operations, treasury, FP&A, and finance systems, with opportunities to experiment with AI to improve group finance processes.
The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of work experience and is newly qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent. You should have strong technical accounting knowledge, including NZ IFRS or US GAAP (or both), experience with multinational enterprises and consolidations, and familiarity with auditing processes. You thrive in fast-paced environments, are eager to learn, and enjoy solving complex problems as part of a high-performing team.
Halter offers an inclusive remuneration package including salary, benefits, and an employee stock ownership plan. Additional benefits include 6 months fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 4 weeks for secondary caregivers, unlimited paid annual leave, wellness leave, a $1000 annual self-development budget, and health insurance partnership. The company operates with an office-first culture emphasizing in-person collaboration while maintaining flexibility for individual needs.
