Rocket Lab is seeking a GNC (Guidance, Navigation & Control) Engineer I to join the Electron rocket team in Auckland. The Electron is one of the world's most frequently-launched orbital rockets, and this role is central to its mission success.
You will be responsible for general mission design and launch operations support across Rocket Lab's launch sites and test facilities in the US and New Zealand. Key responsibilities include:
Trajectory Optimization & Mission Design:
- Assist with trajectory optimization and design for orbital and suborbital missions (including HASTE)
- Support auto-sequence design covering maneuvers, telemetry, and ground station contacts
- Implement and verify sequences for flight tests, stack tests, and wet dress rehearsals
- Analyze and missionize optimized 3DOF trajectories for 6DOF and flight implementation
- Conduct Monte Carlo analysis pre-flight, on launch day, and post-flight
- Design and verify spacecraft separation sequences and dynamics
GNC R&D & Support:
- Contribute to guidance, navigation, and control research and development initiatives
- Provide technical support to launch operations and mission planning teams
- Participate in configuration management and verification/validation activities
You'll work with a fast-moving team that builds real hardware for meaningful missions. The role offers exposure to end-to-end space vehicle development, from design through launch operations.
