Customer.io, a 180-person remote-first SaaS company founded in 2012 and named to the 2025 Inc. 5000 list, is seeking a Global Controller to lead the accounting function and team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will own the monthly and quarterly close process (currently ~10 business days; target 6–8 days within 12 months), general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and account reconciliations, delivering accurate, timely US GAAP financials. Key responsibilities include leading revenue accounting as the technical authority on subscription and usage-based revenue recognition (ASC 606), authoring technical accounting position memos on contract modifications, SSP allocation, variable consideration, and capitalized contract costs. You will own equity compensation accounting (ASC 718)—grant accuracy, 409A timing, expense, modifications, and cap-table integrity—in partnership with stock plan administration. You'll manage and grow a team of ~7 across revenue accounting, close, AP/AR, payroll, and treasury, building trust and developing talent. You will build a control framework suited to a global, remote-first, private company with subscription and usage-based revenue, keeping the books audit-ready. You'll own the accounting systems roadmap (NetSuite, Stripe/Metronome, Ramp, Avalara, FloQast) and drive automation across close and reporting. Treasury operations, including cash management, banking relationships, and FX exposure monitoring, fall under your purview. You'll run the external audit relationship and coordinate with external tax partners on compliance, provisions, and filings. Managing a distributed, remote-first global team requires attention to statutory accounting coordination, payroll and contractor controls, entity reporting, and international compliance in partnership with Legal, HR, and Tax. Required: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership; Big 4 or equivalent top-tier public accounting foundation; deep US GAAP mastery with particular strength in ASC 606; a concrete, personally-owned automation or AI deployment in accounting with measurable results; experience scaling an existing accounting function; proven track record with external audits and audit-ready books; strong leadership and cross-functional communication skills. Nice-to-have: internal controls or SOX-readiness experience, remote-first/globally distributed company experience, M&A or deal accounting exposure, active or inactive CPA license.
