AvantStay is a venture-backed, tech-enabled hospitality brand specializing in unique group travel experiences within the $100+ billion short-term rental industry. The company is seeking a General Manager to lead day-to-day operations at The Mara Hotel in Laguna Beach, California.
In this role, you will serve as the on-site operational leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel management. Your primary responsibilities include supervising and mentoring a diverse team comprising Guest Experience Agents, Housekeeping Inspectors, Housekeepers, Housepersons, Maintenance Technicians, and Safety Officers. You will manage weekly scheduling, payroll optimization, and labor allocation to ensure efficient staffing and coverage across all shifts.
Guest experience is central to the role. You will manage guest complaints with a focus on timely resolution and satisfaction, oversee front desk operations to ensure concierge-level service, and collaborate with teams to curate engaging hotel programming including live music, yoga classes, and art exhibits. Daily room inspections will ensure cleanliness and readiness standards are consistently met.
Operational oversight includes managing inventory and vendor relationships for housekeeping, maintenance, and other supplies. You will work closely with the Housekeeping Inspector to monitor efficiency standards and room turnovers, oversee the Preventative Maintenance Program, and coordinate with the Maintenance Technician on on-site needs. Safety and security are critical; you will collaborate with the Safety Officer to maintain a secure environment and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 3 years of hotel operations, property management, or similar leadership experience. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple teams, and excellent communication are essential. You must be flexible and available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as business needs require. Familiarity with hospitality management systems is a plus.
