Via Transportation is seeking a General Manager in Residence to lead operational transformation in public transit markets. The role begins with a 2-month onboarding sprint in NYC, followed by 1.5 years deployed in a local market running a transit network transformation. You will own end-to-end service performance, manage a 30+ person frontline team, oversee $15M+ P&L, and build relationships with transit agency partners and community stakeholders. Responsibilities include defining and managing KPIs (on-time performance, rider satisfaction, safety, cost efficiency), leading and developing field operators and drivers, managing complex relationships with public transit agencies and elected officials, driving operational excellence through continuous improvement, and influencing product development for Via's Fixed Route services. After the local market deployment, you will transition into a General Manager role in a major market (NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, or Dallas) with larger partner organizations and strategic scope. This is a leadership development program designed for high-potential operators who can build systems, make data-driven decisions, manage stakeholders in complex environments, and embrace the mission of serving communities through public mobility. The role requires full on-site presence and willingness to relocate. You should have 5+ years of pre-MBA experience in operations, consulting, strategy, or tech with meaningful P&L or client accountability, demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, and an MBA (preferred). Via uses technology to transform transportation globally, focusing on reducing environmental impact and improving daily commutes.
