Sydecar is transforming private markets by making them more accessible, transparent, and liquid through a platform that automates banking, compliance, contracts, taxes, and reporting for alternative asset investments.
As General Counsel, you will report directly to the CEO and serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team and VP of Product. Your core mission is to keep Sydecar's products compliant with federal, state, and international regulations while enabling product innovation and finding creative paths forward on novel ideas.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and building a multidisciplinary legal and compliance team
- Conducting legal risk assessment and providing pragmatic, actionable solutions across securities, regulatory compliance, and commercial agreements
- Advising executives on regulatory changes and best practices impacting the business
- Building institutional knowledge resources explaining product design, language choices, and applicable laws
- Contributing directly to innovative fund structures and shaping current and future products
- Monitoring evolving regulatory frameworks in alternative asset investing and engaging with industry groups and policymakers
- Managing external inquiries and outside counsel relationships
You should have 10+ years of legal practice experience with extensive in-house background in FinTech or venture capital. You excel at partnering closely with product teams where legal input directly shapes outcomes. You communicate effectively across levels—from board-level summaries to detailed deal negotiations. You thrive in fast-paced, innovative environments, can learn new legal areas quickly, and apply law pragmatically to business goals.
Strongly preferred: deep expertise in securities laws affecting venture funds and FinTech platforms, including the Securities Act, Exchange Act, Investment Company Act, Investment Advisers Act, and FINRA Rules. You hold a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and maintain an active bar license in good standing.
