Standard Bots is building next-generation industrial robots and seeking its first in-house General Counsel. This is a foundational legal leadership role responsible for establishing legal infrastructure and processes as the company scales across enterprise customers, defense partnerships, resellers, suppliers, and international markets. You will own the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, review, and negotiation of customer agreements, NDAs, supply agreements, reseller contracts, and procurement documents. You'll work directly with counterparties ranging from Fortune 500 enterprises and defense primes to universities and startups. A core responsibility is standardizing terms and conditions, building a contract clause playbook with standard positions, acceptable fallbacks, and escalation triggers for frequently negotiated terms. The role requires structuring liability, indemnification, insurance, and warranty terms appropriate for industrial hardware, with awareness of robotics safety standards (OSHA, ANSI/RIA R15.06). You'll negotiate data processing agreements, privacy terms, and AI-use provisions, and support defense customer compliance requirements (DFARS, CMMC, NIST SP 800-171). As the company expands internationally, you'll support subsidiary formation, cross-border contracting, and coordinate with local counsel in new markets. You'll also handle employment matters including agreement templates, multi-state restrictive covenant issues, and management of employment disputes alongside outside counsel. Additional responsibilities include supporting strategic transactions (LOIs, investments, partnerships), IP-related deal terms, and serving as the single point of contact for legal questions across the company while managing outside counsel scope and spend. Required qualifications: J.D. and New York bar admission; 6–10 years of commercial contracts and technology transactions experience combining law firm and in-house work; experience with hardware, industrial technology, robotics, or manufacturing companies; proven ability to negotiate with sophisticated counterparties; comfort operating as a department of one with strong risk judgment and business-first mindset; excellent communication skills. Nice-to-have: government contracting experience (DFARS, CMMC, NIST), employment law/litigation management, international expansion experience, data privacy expertise, corporate/M&A experience, legal function building at high-growth startups, IPO preparation or public-company compliance experience. Hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site at Glen Cove, NY or Manhattan office.
