OpenAI's Product Explorations team is seeking a full stack software engineer to drive high-impact product explorations at the intersection of AI capabilities and user experience. This is a small, high-ownership team focused on rapidly prototyping and validating new product ideas, then scaling the most promising ones into larger investments.
You will work across Applied and Research divisions, collaborating closely with product, design, engineering, and research partners to identify opportunities, build prototypes, validate with users, and launch new experiences. The role offers significant autonomy and requires strong product intuition to navigate ambiguous environments.
Key responsibilities include identifying high-leverage product and technical opportunities across OpenAI's product suite; moving quickly from concept to prototype to validation to launch; building full stack experiences that unlock value from new model capabilities; collaborating across Research, Applied, product, design, and data science teams; using user feedback and experimentation to determine which ideas should scale; and driving alignment while fostering a culture of speed, ownership, and thoughtful experimentation.
Ideal candidates have shipped full stack product experiences from early prototype through production; thrive in early-stage, highly iterative environments; possess strong product intuition and can identify what matters most for users and business; communicate clearly across disciplines; operate with high autonomy and agency in ambiguous settings; and are energized by work at the intersection of model capabilities, product development, and user impact.
The role is based exclusively at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters, with relocation assistance available for new employees.
