Rocketlane is building world-class software for customer onboarding, professional services, and modern service delivery teams. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will own meaningful parts of the Rocketlane product from design through production.
You will design and build features end-to-end across React frontend and Java backend, working closely with Product and Design to turn customer problems into simple, thoughtful product experiences. You'll build polished, performant user experiences for complex SaaS workflows, design clean APIs and data models that scale, and solve challenging product problems involving real-time collaboration, rich interactive experiences, workflow automation, large datasets, and highly configurable enterprise use cases.
Key responsibilities include making thoughtful architectural decisions across frontend, backend, database, caching, and asynchronous processing; owning the performance and reliability of what you build from browser performance through API latency and database queries; debugging complex issues across the entire stack; writing maintainable, well-tested code and raising quality through code reviews; identifying and proactively improving technical debt; mentoring engineers; taking ownership of features in production; and participating actively in engineering design discussions.
You should enjoy owning problems rather than just completing tickets, care about both how a product works and how it feels to use, move quickly without compromising engineering fundamentals, work through ambiguity, collaborate directly with Product and Design, dive into unfamiliar parts of the stack when needed, and care about performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Nice-to-have experience includes B2B SaaS products, startups or high-growth companies, AWS, Docker/containerization, CI/CD pipelines, real-time collaborative applications, WebSockets, high-volume APIs or large datasets, Playwright/Cypress, enterprise-grade integrations, and AI-assisted product development.
REQUIREMENTS:
Frontend: Comfortable with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, SPA architecture and component design, HTML and CSS, state management and complex client-side flows, browser fundamentals (caching, storage, networking, rendering), building reusable components and maintainable frontend architecture, frontend performance profiling and optimization, and building responsive high-quality product experiences. Experience with real-time applications, WebSockets, large data-heavy interfaces, rich editors, or spreadsheet-like experiences is a plus.
Backend: Strong fundamentals in Java and Spring or similar frameworks, HTTP and REST API design, PostgreSQL or other relational databases, data modelling and query performance, Redis and caching, asynchronous processing and message brokers, designing scalable and resilient backend services, performance optimization, debugging and root-cause analysis, logging/monitoring/production troubleshooting.
Engineering Fundamentals: Understanding of why systems behave the way they do, comfortable discussing API and system design, database transactions and concurrency, caching strategies, distributed systems fundamentals, failure handling and resiliency, performance and scalability, security and authorization, testing strategy, production observability, clean code and maintainable architecture.
The company is looking for an engineer with strong depth in at least one part of the stack, solid engineering fundamentals across the other, and the ability to independently take a customer problem from problem definition through design, architecture, backend, frontend, and production.
