Union.ai is building the orchestration layer for modern AI and ML workloads. The company stewards Flyte, an open-source data and AI orchestration platform trusted by LinkedIn, Stripe, and Wayve to run millions of mission-critical workflows. Union was founded by a technical team from Lyft and has raised from top-tier investors including NEA and Nava Ventures.
As a Front-End Software Engineer, you will build intuitive, high-performance user experiences for complex distributed systems. The role focuses on data-dense, live interfaces where workflow runs stream state in real time, task lists run long, and logs update continuously. This is similar to building a monitoring or observability console rather than a traditional CRUD application.
You will own the Flyte v2 experience across multiple domains: launching workflows, monitoring runs, debugging failures, managing applications, and onboarding new organizations. You'll work closely with product, design, backend, infrastructure, and customer teams.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining a modern React and Next.js application in TypeScript; developing features for Run Details, Actions, Apps, Settings, and workflows; implementing complex UI patterns such as infinite scrolling, virtualization, real-time updates, and timelines; creating interactive data tables with sorting, filtering, and efficient rendering at volume; building reusable components using Tailwind CSS and Headless UI; working with gRPC and Connect APIs for type-safe communication; managing state with TanStack Query and Zustand; collaborating with backend engineers on API design; contributing to front-end architecture and performance; and working directly with customers to understand problems and improve the product.
Required qualifications: 3+ years building modern web applications; strong experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript; hands-on work with real-time data, infinite scrolling, virtualization, or high-volume datasets; understanding of front-end architecture and performance optimization; experience with modern build tooling (Vite or Webpack); bias toward simple, maintainable code; clear communication and cross-team collaboration; bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Preferred experience includes workflow orchestration, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, containers, gRPC, protobuf, data visualization, or familiarity with platforms like Flyte, Ray, Spark, or SageMaker. Enterprise customer experience is a plus.
