Bedrock Energy is seeking its first commercial team member to shape go-to-market strategy and drive early customer acquisition for a geothermal heating and cooling platform. The company transforms building climate control using carbon-free geothermal energy, targeting real estate and infrastructure developers globally. Founded in 2022, Bedrock has raised over $25M and is scaling rapidly.
In this founding role, you will initially work closely with the CEO, then transition to supporting an incoming VP of Commercial as you build out the sales organization from scratch. You'll own the complete customer journey: prospecting, discovery, pitching, proposals, negotiation, and close. You'll pitch to diverse buyer personas—from technical evaluators to C-suite executives—adapting messaging for each audience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Finding and winning early customers; owning deals end-to-end
- Building economic models (ROI, payback, cost savings) for both customers and Bedrock
- Drafting term sheets, proposals, and negotiating contracts with leadership and counsel
- Refining positioning, messaging, and pitch materials based on customer feedback
- Identifying patterns across customer and project models to prioritize segments and channels
- Translating customer insights into product and strategy input
- Maturing the BD/sales funnel: defining stages, qualification criteria, handoffs, and metrics
- Setting up CRM, pipeline reporting, and forecasting infrastructure
- Documenting playbooks for future sales hires
- Partnering with leadership to structure and build the sales organization
You'll need wide-ranging curiosity spanning technical (building energy, HVAC, geo-physics, drilling), economic (DER economics, utility tariffs, financial modeling), and relational domains (real estate development, construction processes, organizational dynamics). Travel of 25–50% expected in many months, including conferences and job sites.
Qualifications:
- 5–10 years of experience combining structured analytical problem-solving with customer-facing work (e.g., corporate development, strategy consulting)
- At least 2 years of hands-on BD or sales experience, ideally at an early-stage company
- Strong analytical skills: comfortable building financial models in Excel or Sheets and explaining them clearly
- Clear, persuasive communication in writing and in person; ability to adapt to different audiences
- Experience negotiating commercial structure, or strong appetite to learn quickly
- Thrives in ambiguity; can set priorities, build structure, and pivot based on evidence
- Low ego, high ownership; comfortable with diverse tasks from CRM updates to contract redlines to CEO presentations
Nice to have:
- Experience selling into real estate and/or distributed energy
- Familiarity with complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles (enterprise, infrastructure, project-based)
- Background launching a new product, business line, or venture from zero to first revenue
Desired qualities: proactivity, coachability, excellence, creativity, integrity, compassion, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
