Instructure's New Markets division is seeking a Founder to launch and lead a new AI-powered product business within the company. This is a founder-track role designed for entrepreneurial operators who want to build and scale a company without raising external capital or assembling distribution from scratch. You will own the complete lifecycle of a new business: identifying and validating a problem worth solving, building the product with a dedicated Builder and engineering support, selling to customers, and running the P&L. You'll work hands-on across product, engineering, sales, and customer success—moving at startup speed with real customers validating your thesis within weeks, not quarters. Key responsibilities include: (1) Problem validation—bring founder-level conviction about a specific market problem, get in front of customers early, and earn the gate to build; (2) Product ownership—author specs and customer findings, work directly with your Builder, and code yourself when it accelerates progress; (3) Sales and revenue—land pilots, prove willingness to pay, and drive to paying customers beyond the pilot; (4) Business operations—own your pod's P&L, hit stage-gates, and make course-correction decisions based on evidence. You'll be paired with a dedicated Builder, backed by a supporting operating team, and given a token budget to build agentically. The role reports to the President of New Markets. Success is measured by revenue and customer validation, not activity or hours. You'll navigate real go/no-go gates where pods can be folded or consolidated—treating outcomes as information, not failure. Ideal candidates have shipped real products, started or owned something meaningful, and combine builder's instinct with commercial judgment. Prior startup or zero-to-one experience is valuable; a track record of finishing is more important. You work across functions without waiting for organizational structure, prioritize customer feedback over internal politics, and operate effectively as a two-person team.
