Chalk is a data platform for machine learning inference, combining high-performance infrastructure with developer-friendly tools. The company recently raised a $50M Series A and serves leading enterprises in fraud detection, identity verification, and clean energy optimization. As a Forward Deployed Strategist, you will own the technical direction of Chalk's customer integrations, serving as the technical authority across sales, delivery, account management, and support relationships. You'll work alongside Forward Deployed Engineers who build directly with customer engineering teams, advising on both traditional ML models (fraud, payments, underwriting, recommendations) and increasingly on AI agents running in production. Key responsibilities include: - Conduct deep technical discovery into customer systems, identifying bottlenecks and architectural constraints - Provide architectural guidance on system design, migration paths, and sequencing, including systems outside Chalk's platform - Design solutions on Chalk's platform with clear requirements for correctness, latency, and cost - Architect agentic workflows, including agent permissions, evaluation against production data, and safe execution in customer environments - Design and execute focused POCs with clear success criteria and disciplined scope management - Engage with customer principal engineers during critical decision phases - Identify high-impact work and assess technical fit - Break down projects into clear deliverables with owners and timelines for delivery engineers - Maintain technical coherence of accounts post-launch through ongoing collaboration with account management and support - Feed learnings from the field back to product and engineering teams, advocating for impactful changes Required qualifications: deep production infrastructure experience with understanding of failure modes in live systems; proven ability to advise engineering teams on systems you didn't build; strong technical taste and ability to defend architectural opinions; skill in scoping POCs that prove exactly what matters; strong Python and SQL with ability to prototype and read customer codebases; willingness to deliver difficult truths to customers; cross-functional collaboration skills; excellent communication and analytical abilities. Bonus experience includes deploying software into customer clouds, getting AI agents to run reliably on production systems, domain expertise in fraud/payments/underwriting/identity/recommendations/pricing/logistics, or Rust/C++ proficiency.
