Scale is hiring a Senior Product Designer to lead end-to-end design for its Public Sector business unit, which delivers AI-powered decision support tools directly to government and defense customers. This is a forward-deployed role requiring regular on-site work with customers in the field.
You will own the complete design lifecycle—from ambiguous requirements through wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes—for one of three core mission workflows: planning (synthesizing information for senior decision-makers), operations (surfacing alerts from complex data), or analytical (research and reporting tools). You'll partner with product as a peer from inception, not just at handoff.
Key responsibilities include designing complex, data-dense workflows such as dashboards, mapping interfaces, alerting systems, and analytical reporting tools. You'll work directly on-site with government and defense customers, building relationships and confidently presenting design decisions to senior stakeholders without management present. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, moving beyond static mockups to help build and refine shipped experiences. You'll also contribute design assets and interaction patterns back to the broader platform, help calibrate the growing design team through portfolio reviews and interviews, and navigate high ambiguity by helping define customer requirements.
Required qualifications include 10–15 years of design experience across varied settings, proven success owning end-to-end B2B or enterprise product experiences at senior/staff level, comfort with high ambiguity and evolving requirements, experience designing complex workflow UI and data-heavy interfaces, strong client-facing presence with ability to win over senior stakeholders in person, working knowledge of front-end development and ability to collaborate directly with engineers on code, and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites. Nice-to-haves include prior client-facing roles presenting to senior stakeholders and exposure to AI/ML tools.
