Salary: USD 160,000 - 185,000 / annual
HackerRank is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as the primary technical presence in customer engagements, leading pilots, demos, and supporting customer evaluation and adoption of the HackerRank platform. This hybrid role is based in Santa Clara and blends deep customer engagement with technical execution.
In this role, you will lead customer-facing engagements including discovery, pilots, and demos, acting as the primary technical voice with prospects and customers. You'll partner onsite with customer engineers, recruiters, and business leaders to uncover developer needs and shape practical, goal-driven solutions. You'll keep customer projects on track through disciplined execution and proactive communication, leverage tools including AI to deliver faster and more reliable outcomes, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams to amplify the customer voice internally.
You are a customer-facing technical leader with full-stack depth sufficient to configure, debug, and explain web applications, integrations, and generate API scripts as needed (Ruby or Python). You are confident leading conversations onsite with prospects and enterprise customers while gathering requirements, shaping technical approaches, and delivering measurable impact. You communicate clearly—able to go deep with engineers or simplify for non-technical audiences. You are a strong operator who plans, executes, and follows through, keeping projects organized. You lead with empathy, energy, and a problem-solver's mindset.
It is especially valuable if you have experience as a software, solutions, or sales engineer working with HR tech, ATS platforms, IDEs, developer tools, API-first or integration-heavy systems, and a track record of seeing projects through from scoping to delivery while balancing customer needs with technical tradeoffs. You thrive in this role if you love mixing engineering, consulting, and delivery while owning every step of the journey, want every project to feel like a new challenge, and set and uphold high standards for excellence.
Requirements:
- Full-stack technical depth with ability to configure, debug, and explain web applications and integrations

- Project management and execution discipline
- Preferred: background in software, solutions, or sales engineering
