Salary: USD 210,000 - 300,000 / annual
Meter is a vertically integrated networking company that owns the full stack—hardware, firmware, operating systems, and operations—to simplify enterprise networking infrastructure. The company recently raised $170M in Series C funding and is extending its platform to data center Ethernet switching with top-of-rack and spine switches.
In this role, you will design and build a performant switch OS and firmware (similar to SONiC) for Meter's data center products. You'll work cross-functionally with hardware engineers, QA, infrastructure teams, and leadership who have previously built widely deployed networking products.
Within six months, you should ship firmware critical to TOR and Spine switch adoption. Success in your first year is measured by code quality (reliability, performance, simplicity, maintainability, and thorough testing) and code velocity (shipping quality features quickly, sunsetting bad ideas, collecting customer feedback, and building practical solutions).
Day-to-day responsibilities include scoping, writing, and testing features for the switch OS; collaborating closely with senior engineers across hardware, firmware, QA, and infrastructure; working with select beta customers to validate features and gather product feedback; and staying current on data center hardware and networking research to share knowledge across Meter's engineering teams.
You are someone with strong networking fundamentals, proven ability to identify issues proactively, and a track record of delivering clear solutions to dependent teams. You are dependable, kind, and autonomous.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, L2/L3 networking)
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Golang or similar backend languages (a plus)
- Track record of identifying issues before they arise and bringing clear solutions to dependent engineering teams
- Mindset of curiosity and impact, motivated by turning complex systems into simple, elegant customer experiences
