North is building a next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. The company provides real-time visibility, control, and automation over digital asset finances, helping companies grow efficiently without wasting resources. Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by customers like Brave and The New York Public Library, North is assembling a world-class team.
This is a practitioner-focused role, not a sales or marketing position. You will serve as North's authority on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure, working directly with prospects, customers, and the product team. Your deep hands-on experience running FinOps at scale will be the foundation of your credibility and influence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Joining customer evaluations as the technical authority on GCP and Azure costs from initial call through close
- Walking cloud leaders and CFOs through billing data interpretation and identifying meaningful savings opportunities
- Running proof-of-concept engagements and providing honest assessments, including when North may not be the right fit
- Supporting new customers in building FinOps practices around North's platform
- Identifying stalled accounts, diagnosing adoption issues, and addressing them proactively
- Pressure-testing product releases against real customer environments before shipping
- Helping North account for differences in GCP and Azure billing structures, commitments, allocation models, discounts, and organizational hierarchies
- Working with the Principal Product Manager and CEO to shape the roadmap, bringing field evidence
- Representing North publicly through writing, speaking, and community involvement in FinOps and cloud spaces
You will report directly to Matt Biringer, CEO and Co-Founder, and partner closely with the Principal Product Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years running cloud FinOps, either as head of a practice inside a company or in product management at a vendor in this space
- Ownership of cloud cost outcomes, not advisory involvement alone
- Deep fluency in GCP, Azure, or both, with hands-on experience interpreting billing data and identifying operational activity behind it
- For GCP: experience with Cloud Billing exports, BigQuery billing data, resource hierarchy, labels, Committed Use Discounts, and enterprise pricing agreements
- For Azure: experience with Azure Cost Management and Billing, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, tags, Reservations, Savings Plans, and enterprise agreements or cloud commitments
- Experience designing tagging, labeling, allocation, showback, or chargeback systems that survive contact with engineering teams
- Experience managing commitments, forecasting cloud demand, and balancing savings against utilization and lock-in risk
- Understanding of challenges involved in normalizing cost and usage data across cloud providers
- Credibility with both finance and engineering audiences, with ability to move between them in the same meeting
- Comfort operating in pre-sales without a quota, serving as technical authority rather than closer
- Track record of turning customer or practitioner patterns into shipped product requirements
- Willingness to disagree with product decisions and make the case directly to the CEO
- Strong written communication skills, as much influence in this role happens through documents
- Comfort with ambiguity and a role still being defined
NICE TO HAVE:
- FinOps Foundation certification or active involvement in FinOps community
- Deep expertise in both GCP and Azure
- Experience managing multi-cloud environments including AWS
- Point of view on AI, GPU, and inference spend (Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI, cloud-based GPU infrastructure)
- Familiarity with FOCUS and billing data normalization across providers
- Experience optimizing Kubernetes costs across GKE or AKS
- Experience at early-stage company where role was not fully defined on day one
