The company is digitizing the decades-old business insurance industry through tech-driven solutions in partnership with major insurers and underwriters. We're seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead the overall financial health of the organization. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility individual contributor role reporting to the executive team. Key Responsibilities: Insurance & Underwriting Operations: Assist with underwriting premium bordereaux reconciliations, broker commissions, payments to insurers, and claims payment reconciliations. Support FS70/71 audit requirements for AFSL-regulated entities. Financial Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business objectives. Lead the finance team, maintain internal controls, and improve financial policies. Mentor and develop finance staff. Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee all finance and accounting operations (AP, AR, GL, payroll). Prepare timely monthly and annual financial statements. Implement month-end closing procedures and balance sheet reconciliations. Coordinate budgets and forecasts. Analyze financial performance and provide insights on key metrics and variances to the executive team. Cash Flow & Risk Management: Monitor, forecast, and manage daily, weekly, and long-term cash flow. Identify and manage financial risks. Implement effective internal controls and compliance measures. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and tax requirements. Stakeholder Relations: Build relationships with banks, investors, and financial partners. Manage investor relations and shareholder requests alongside co-founders. Communicate financial performance to stakeholders. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with leadership on strategic direction. Evaluate M&A and growth opportunities. Assess IT systems and digital infrastructure for scalability. Required Qualifications: - 4–7+ years in accounting with experience in startup/scaleup, insurance broker/MGA, fintech, or public practice - CA/CPA (qualified or near completion) with strong AASB/IFRS grounding - Proven strength in reconciliations and month-end close; comfortable owning GL end-to-end - Advanced Excel/Google Sheets; exposure to Xero and BI tools (Looker/Metabase) - Clear communicator who translates numbers into actions for non-finance teams Nice-to-Have: Experience with trust accounts, carrier/broker settlements, or bordereaux. Tech Stack: Xero, Airwallex, Stripe, Notion, Google Workspace, Slack, BigQuery.
