Anthropic is seeking a Finance Systems Engineer to own the tax technology function within Finance Systems. This is a foundational hire on a small team reporting to the Tax Technology Lead, responsible for building and maintaining systems that make every revenue and purchasing motion bookable, taxable, and auditable from day one. You will architect and implement tax-specific integrations, tooling, and production code connecting tax systems to Anthropic's billing, ERP, and data warehouse infrastructure. Your scope spans all tax domains: indirect tax (sales/use, VAT/GST), corporate income tax and provision, withholding tax, R&D credits, and transfer pricing. Key responsibilities include owning tax-related changes in the billing codebase and billing-to-tax-engine integration; leading AP tax engine implementation across ERP-connected purchasing flows (data migration, integration pipelines, parallel-run reconciliation, e-invoicing, go-live validation); building tax-specific products and internal tooling across the full tax stack; owning production connection points between the tax stack and data infrastructure; building SOX-aware IPE and control-total tooling on tax data flows with audit-ready evidence pipelines; designing tooling that applies Claude to automate tax work and provides non-technical tax colleagues self-serve access to data, calculations, and evidence; serving as technical owner for vendor implementation handoffs; and partnering with Billing Engineering, Data Platform, Tax, Treasury, and Product teams. Required qualifications include hands-on experience building or owning production integrations against billing platforms, ERPs, or enterprise tax/finance systems; tax-systems fluency in at least one domain (gained at a tax-technology practice, tax software vendor, or in-house tax-systems team); production-grade Python proficiency with testing and code-review discipline; SQL proficiency for reconciliations and data validation; experience building or operating SOX-aware data flows; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; and ability to work directly with vendors, auditors, engineers, and the tax team. Preferred qualifications include 7+ years in tax technology or finance systems engineering; experience owning changes in a shared production codebase alongside product engineering teams; warehouse and analytics-engineering skills (dbt, BigQuery); breadth across multiple tax domains; experience building internal tools for non-technical users; LLM or AI application experience in finance/tax; marketplace or usage-based billing exposure; experience hardening vendor-built systems; UAT design and change-management experience; and a record of novel AI applications for foundational tax tasks.
