Salary: USD 234,000 - 260,000 / annual

OpenAI's Strategic Finance team is seeking a Hardware Finance Manager to own consolidated financial reporting, forecasting, and financial systems across the company's hardware organizations (Io and Robotics). This role sits at the intersection of hardware finance, central FP&A, accounting, and finance systems, responsible for providing leadership with a single, accurate, and timely financial view of the hardware business. You will serve as the embedded owner of the hardware financial backbone with end-to-end responsibility for consolidated P&L reporting, forecasting, variance analysis, and the systems and processes that enable scalable, decision-ready insights. Key responsibilities include: - Own end-to-end consolidated financial reporting for all hardware organizations, delivering integrated P&L views across R&D, Product, Revenue, COGS, and OpEx - Establish and run the hardware financial operating cadence, including monthly close, forecasting, reforecasting, and variance analysis - Serve as key finance partner to Hardware Finance leads, central FP&A, and Accounting, aligning bottoms-up plans with accounting actuals - Build and maintain consolidated forecasting and reporting models that roll up inputs from multiple functions into driver-based financial views - Design, implement, and manage hardware financial systems, tools, and processes, driving standardization and automation - Own the hardware chart of accounts and financial structures, ensuring clarity and consistency - Provide executive-ready financial insights, including variance explanations and forward-looking risk signals - Establish data governance and quality controls to ensure financial outputs are trusted and auditable - Support portfolio-level decision-making by enabling consistent comparisons across hardware programs - Contribute to scaling hardware finance infrastructure to support continued growth Ideal candidates have 8+ years of progressive finance experience with significant exposure to hardware, manufacturing, or complex supply chain businesses. You should have expert modeling skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to distill complex financial information into actionable insights. The role requires excellent communication and storytelling ability when presenting data insights, plus enthusiasm for building human-computer interfaces for the AI era. The position is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model of 3 days in-office per week. OpenAI offers relocation assistance for new employees.
