Stream is a VC-backed fintech platform serving over three million workers through major employers including Greene King, M&S, Bupa, Burger King, Asda, and the NHS. The platform enables users to earn, learn, save, spend, and borrow through a single smartphone app, with a founding mission to provide fair financial tools to everyday workers. This Finance Director role leads Stream's Core Finance function, reporting directly to the CFO. The position manages two direct reports—the Group Reporting Manager and Financial Controller—and oversees transactional accounting, group financial statements, tax, and finance systems. This is a critical moment to join as Stream prepares for a future IPO and plans a transformational acquisition within 18 months. Key responsibilities include leading the Core Finance team and building capabilities to support a listed business; owning the month-end close and consolidation process across UK and US entities; preparing monthly management accounts and ensuring balance sheet accuracy; managing the statutory audit relationship and ensuring clean sign-off; ensuring technical accounting compliance under UK GAAP/IFRS and US GAAP; and owning FCA regulatory returns for regulated entities. The role requires driving the uplift of financial reporting, systems, and controls needed for IPO readiness, including tightening close timelines, strengthening internal controls, and improving documentation. You'll play a leading finance role in M&A activity, including financial due diligence, opening balance sheet work, and designing integration of acquired finance processes, systems, and people. Additional responsibilities span UK and international tax compliance, finance systems roadmap ownership (NetSuite and related tools), and business partnering across the organization. Ideal candidates hold ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification with eight-plus years post-qualification experience, including prior Financial Controller or Finance Director roles. Strong track record owning statutory audit and group consolidation for multi-entity international groups is essential. Experience reporting under UK GAAP and IFRS is required; US GAAP exposure is advantageous. Prior IPO preparation experience or working within a listed environment with internal controls frameworks (e.g., SOX) is highly valued, as is prior finance integration through M&A.
