Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Reliability Engineer to join the Maritime division, which builds autonomous underwater and surface vehicles. This role focuses on diagnosing and fixing real-world issues that emerge when vehicles are deployed in the field—problems the lab never encounters.
You will own the full lifecycle of field-reported anomalies: reproduce issues using recorded sensor and mission data, use metrics and centralized logging to reconstruct system state, confirm fixes in simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments, and ship production fixes through the normal versioned rollout process. You'll write fixes across multiple languages (Rust, C++, Python, Go) with proper tests and CI integration. Beyond patching symptoms, you'll identify root causes at the correct architectural layer and push back to owning teams when subsystems need redesign rather than workarounds.
You'll document every issue closed with root cause analysis to identify systemic gaps and build the on-call/triage runbook the team currently lacks. This is a genuine entry point into the codebase and broader system architecture—successful execution leads to subsystem ownership and roadmap work.
Required: strong debugging skills under time pressure with incomplete information; fluency reading and fixing bugs in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go; systems-level debugging instincts (logs, metrics, offline reproduction); hands-on experience with observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Loki/ELK); Linux systems fluency; clear technical writing; willingness to work close to hardware and sensors; 25%+ travel availability.
Nice-to-have: robotics middleware, sensor drivers, real-time data pipeline experience, simulation-in-the-loop/hardware-in-the-loop testing, CI/CD for embedded/fleet software, on-call or field-support experience.
