Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming livestock grazing through hardware-enabled precision farming. The company has raised from top-tier investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC, and is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand with expansion into Australia.
You will be Halter's first hardware technician on the ground in Tasmania, building field operations from the ground up. This is a hands-on role combining technical troubleshooting, farm deployment support, and operational system design.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair Halter's on-farm infrastructure (collars and towers) to ensure continuous operation
- Diagnose hardware issues in the field and communicate findings to product and engineering teams
- Deploy Halter systems on farms, troubleshoot installations, and ensure customer success from day one
- Collect and analyze hardware data to optimize processes and identify issues proactively
- Participate in a global on-call roster for tower-related incidents
- Build and manage a maintenance system tailored to the Australian market
- Travel 3–4 days per week across Australian farms; some overnight stays required
- Collaborate across Halter's distributed teams (Australia and Auckland HQ) to drive customer outcomes
- Take ownership of whatever operational needs arise to support Halter's growth in the region
You will translate field learnings into actionable insights for remote teams, manage your own schedule independently, and thrive in an early-stage market entry where processes are still being refined.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on practical experience with tools, electrical work, construction, networking, or equipment fitting
- Proactive, ownership-oriented mindset; comfortable figuring things out independently
- Strong communication skills to translate field observations into clear feedback for remote teams
- Excellent time management and ability to work without direct supervision
- Ability to work effectively across distributed teams and time zones
- Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to thrive in early-stage conditions
- Commitment to delivering excellence and maintaining high operational standards
- Willingness to travel regularly and adapt to spontaneous travel needs
